Does it help to know you’re not the only one going through the exact struggle you’re facing?

“No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.” Paul of Tarsus.

Stay strong, stay faithful, you’re not alone.

Thank you … for so many things … most of all for letting God inspire through you. I am a recent transplant to the Pacific NW from North Carolina. I believe it was Divine Providence that caused someone to leave two of your books in the church library. I devoured Rooms and Book of Days and have rarely been so emotionally and spiritually moved. I finally feel free to face the changes and challenges in my life.

In December 1976 my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After successful surgery we enjoyed 13 years of really living. I actually bargained with God that if He would let my husband live I would quit being such a “stick in the mud” and we would “go out and play” more. (how foolish of me to think my bargain had anything to do with God’s plan for Don’s life). As I was reading Book of Days the lake showed me the Marriage Encounter retreat and our letters to each other on the subject of ” why do I want to spend the rest of my life with you” … that was in February 1989, and in December 1989 God gathered Don into His arms. I had never fully relinquished that life and love until God showed me that the life we lived, we lived fully.

Now, after reading your Book of Days, I can accept my own days and enjoy God’s plan for my life.

Jim, I just finished your book Rooms. I’m in the middle of a journey that takes me back to the childhood trauma of sexual abuse. This book has inspired me to look at my past in a different light. The cords that bind us because of my past really struck a nerve. Thank You

    Jim!

The Focus on the Family catalogue came in the mail today for Christmas — and I wanted to only browse through to see whose books were included — and there was Jim’s Rooms! Absolutely THRILLED for you! Congratulations! May God’s glory be spread far and wide and lifted higher in your life!

    Every, every blessing,
    All’s grace,
    Ann Voskamp

    Jim,

I just finished your book a few minutes ago and I’m so excited that the real, actual, living truth of God exists in a novel! I admit I was on the edge of my seat the whole time both for the story’s suspense but also wondering when the theology of the book would take a wrong turn and turn me off leaving me to feel like I had to correct everything in my mind the rest of the book but it didn’t happen. I’m amazed and so ecstaticthat you know the truth of God’s love, healing and freedom for yourself and that everyone who reads your book will come in deep contact with it too. Even though i grew up a Christian since forever I have been on a journey over the past 3 or so years with God graciously correcting the flaws of my theology and even still. It’s an awakening to actual love I never realized existed on this level and it’s still being revealed to me as I suspect it always will be. I just want to thank you for writing such a brilliant novel and sharing it with the world. I can hardly wait to read other books you’ve written. I am so grateful you are not a cheesy Christian writer. You actually write real stuff that real people in today’s world can relate too. Oh! Also, I happen to live in the Seattle area (Snohomish to be exact) and have also been to Cannon Beach years ago so it is fun to read about places I really know.
Anyway, I just couldn’t go to sleep without telling you what is on my heart after finishing your book. Thanks again for writing it. I look forward to your future work and am definitely passing Rooms around to my family and friends.

    Very sincerely,

    Alysia

Thanks for the reminder, Jim. It’s good to know that I’m not alone in my struggles, that Jesus faced everything I ever have faced or ever will face, and there are others cheering me on.
