Yep, today I turned thirty-nine AGAIN! (I love having an easily deluded mind.)
As with every year, the past 12 months have had highs and lows. But do you really want to hear about the downers? Nah, and I don’t want to write about them.
So here are a few of the highs:
At the end of August, Darci and I renewed our wedding vows and it was spectacular. Sun, sand, deserted beach, Taylor and Micah there … and no one else. Perfect
- Taylor sang Darci’s and my song with such passion and beauty we were both amazed.
- And Micah performed the ceremony like a pro and had us laughing so hard we almost choked when he started out with a spot on impression of the minister in The Princess Bride. (Clip below if you don’t know what I’m talking about.)
- Another highlight was winning the Christy Award for Soul’s Gate. One of the more surreal moments of my life.
To complete the trifecta, I’ll mention seeing my youngest son, Micah navigate an extremely difficult situation on his track team last spring.
A teammate on his 4 x 400 relay team backed out at the last minute for completely selfish reasons at the state track meet. This young man let the team down, Micah down, and ultimately I believe, himself down.
(This shot is NOT of the teammate who let Micah down, but of an awesome young man who became a great friend of Micah’s.)
It was devastating and left the three on the team others scrambling to find a last second replacement, but Micah handled the whole situation with a maturity most adults wouldn’t have. Definitely a massive proud dad moment.
That’s enough. As I already said, some good, some tough, but Jesus continues to draw me deeper into Himself and into greater freedom and healing. The best gift possible.
